Ice skating at the Frog pond

On Sunday we went to the city for a little fun.I love Boston any time of the year. It's always fun to see how the City changes with the seasons. We had never been to Boston in February though, and it was great. It was 45 and kinda clear,so we got to walk around a bit and ice skate at the pond, which was great fun.We fell a lot but laughed a lot too.

Olivia napped the time we skated.

Life Lessons from a 1st grader

The other day Rebecca was telling me about her day in school and she told me a story I just had to record because I know someday I will enjoy reading it again(and probably miss her 6-year-old little self too).So here it is.Rebecca usually plays with her "bestest" friend, we'll call her N,during recess. This year N and Rebecca are in different classes so the only time they get to see each other is during recess.Because of all the snow and cold temperatures the kids haven't been going outside for recess a lot and this gave Rebecca the chance to get to know the kids in her own class and develop relationships with them. She tells me about these relationships a lot and I get first hand reports in the words and point of view of a 6-year old.It makes for some very interesting conversations(either that or I just need to talk to adults more often).Anyway, she tells me her friends have formed this BFFs club.Again, these are 6 and 7 year olds, ok? So, as she was making her V-day cards her friend G who's part of the BFF's peeks over at her desk and guess who she is making her first card to? Not G,or any of the other BFFs.She is making the very first V-day card for N! G does not like what she sees and tells Rebecca she is not part of the BFFs club anymore. The whole time I was listening to this story I was feeding Olivia and kinda had my back to her.At this point I stop and look at Rebecca thinking that she will tell me how devastated she was to hear that. She looks at me, rolls her eyes and says: Yeah, like I care about clubs and stuff like that.I just looked at her and said -G,I'm your friend but I can have OTHER friends too you know!. She said her friend was not happy with her but at the end of the day she told Rebecca that she could be in the club again.Rebecca was glad her friend was on good terms with her again but just to make sure she doesn't make any of her friends jeolous or upset again about this she changed the name on her first V-day card to: OLIVIA.Yeah thats right, her little sister Olivia.I guess this club understand that little sisters always come before BFFs?I dont know. I was proud of her for speaking up though. This was not the first time someone pulled the if-you-play-with-them-and-not-me-I-won't-be-friends-with-you kind of a thing on her.It happened in the beggining of the year too and I remember her being really upset that one of her friends didn't want to be friends with the other and she would have to choose between them. She is a very resilient little girl this one.Very opinionated too(you should hear her theory on why it's perfectly ok to play with b-o-y-s, even though her 9 year old cousin says they're icky) In the end she didn't hurt G's feelings by not making her the first card, but didn't cross her best friend off the list either. She dodged her first relationship bullet. She is not a people pleaser this girl so all her friends better get along or...she will give exclusivity to a one-year-old!

Winter Funk

I'm in a winter funk and I can't get out of it.I don't like cold weather, never have. But in January/February is when I like it the least hate it the most.January is the coldest and snowiest month and February the longest of the cold months(and maybe this year it will be the snowiest). Some things I think would kinda help me get out of it though, maybe:
Having my Glee back(new season starts next week, yay!)
My beautiful canary getting done molting and start singing his lovely songs again(he always cheers me up)
        Reading an AMAZING book,suggestions anyone?
Going outside more.May seem like not a good idea for someone who doesn't like cold but seeing nature and my daughter playing actually makes me happy so... maybe.
Having friends and family over more often.Last saturday I baked a two cakes and hosted my nieces b-day party here and it was a lot of fun.
Anyone have any suggestions on dealing with winter funk? If so,please leave a comment.I will hybernating in my cave.

Olivia is 1!

And boy is she cute at one!Olivia packs a lot of personality in that little 19lbs body of hers. She loves praise and attention,so you better give it to her or she will charm you to death.Really,be careful. She is a little over one now(17 days)and has started walking. So when you see her walking, tell her she is doing a great job and to keep up the good work 'cause if you don't she will walk over to you and tug on your pants as if saying, "Hey, have you seen me do this?! Yeah, she's cute like that.Olivia is into books now, but not all books. She likes books with big bold pictures of babies and animals. She likes to hear the sounds that each of the animals make over and over and over again...and then one more time. She is also a screamer so we all obey(though I think she secretly prefers that I do it, I do a pretty good cow...ha hem) Olivia is very lovey dovey with us and with her favorite stuffed bear,Cutie(a care bear she sleeps, plays, eats with)but watch out if she has a toy in her hand because she is rough. She will throw toys just to see them hit the floor or the wall for that matter. We're working on that. We're also working with her sleep patterns wich right now inconsistent and driving mommy craaaazyyyy.Anyways, she is also a talker. She baby-talks all of the time. She says random words, she signs a few words too. When we ask her a question she understands like "you want some strawberries?' she actually answers with yes or no and shakes her head accordinly. It's still hard for us to think back of when she was born and had to stay in the hospital. She couldn't come home with us because of a blood incompatibility(I'm O-positive,she's A-negative).The doctors had her stay under the lights from day one because her bilirubin numbers were so high. She didn't need blood transfusion, she got to come home with us two days after I had left the hospital. We were so thankful. We still are. We're so happy we get to be in her life.So that's our little girl for ya!We love you Olivia! Keep up the good work.
